About us

In 2024, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) awarded 3 years of funding to institutions across 12 regions in England to provide a wide range of engagement activities and research Masters places to showcase the range of research carers available and and equip students with skills and training to undertake research. This includes careers combining research and practice.

Each year, up to 30 research Masters places are available in each region with more than 300 opportunities available across England each year.

Each region will provide –

  • places on fully-funded Masters courses that will develop research skills and experience for current students and recent graduates within registered healthcare, social work and public health professions
  • engagement activities that attract people into research and showcase the benefits of research careers

The University of Leeds is the host organisation for the Yorkshire and Humber region, working in collaboration with Universities and NHS Partner organisations to support Health and Social care professionals to undertake qualifications which “enable individuals to gain academic training and develop the necessary skills and experience to access the full range of research careers from research delivery to academic”.
